Agortor CHPS Compond
About Agortor CHPS Compound
Agortor CHPS (Community Health Planning and Services) Compound is a grassroots health facility serving residents of the Agortor-Tsopoli area in the Shai Osudoku District, Greater Accra Region. Its mandate is to bring basic health services closer to the people—especially in under-resourced, rural, and peri-urban communities.
What CHPS Means in Practice
-
CHPS is a national policy framework in Ghana that aims to reduce barriers to health care by putting Community Health Officers (CHOs) and community-based care into local zones.
-
Such compounds typically provide preventive, promotive, and basic curative services, including antenatal care, postnatal care, immunizations, health education, disease surveillance, referrals, and home visits.
-
The operational guidelines stipulate minimum physical infrastructure, space for consultation, storage, separation of functional areas, safety, and equipment.
-
Across Ghana, there are about 6,500 CHPS zones (though many operate without full infrastructure).
In Agortor, the CHPS compound is often resource-constrained. For example, in February 2024, the Royal Ladies Ministry donated beds, wheelchairs, stethoscopes, medicines, sanitizers, mosquito nets, disinfectants, and other essentials to the facility. The compound has also benefited from community support—local leaders and constituents have contributed financially and materially toward renovations and upgrades.
